Marnie spent her first 18 years living in South America, and attending local schools there. Her first experience of living full time in the United States was when she came to college. She has a B.A. in Spanish Literature and a M.A. in ESOL (English as a Second or Other Language).
Teaching and building community have always been Marnie’s passion. While teaching high school students in Maryland, she also helped a then migrant Guatemalan community assimilate into her rural community. In Sarasota, she taught at an independent school for 15 years before “officially” retiring. However, she is not retired yet as she teaches Life Skills and ESOL classes to parents at two different schools as part of UnidosNow’s Parent Leadership Program.
