Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Thank you for joining us!

Over 160 people attended the event and generously donated over $50,000 towards the future of our promising students. Our guests enjoyed a lively opening by Mariachis Los Arrieros, delicious Latino food, and joyful dancing with the music of Trio Fusión.

We are very grateful for the support of the sponsors who made this evening possible: Oro (Gold) Sponsors, Community Foundation of Sarasota CountyKathy Schersten, and CJ Czaia; Plata (Silver) Sponsors, Gulf Coast Community Foundation and Kenyon Law; Bronce (Bronze) Sponsors, IberiaBank and Gallagher & Hagopian; and our Media Sponsor, TV Net Media Group.

A very special thanks goes to Kathy Schersten, an UnidosNow board member and the chairperson of this event. Kathy inspired us to dream big which resulted in UnidosNow exceeding all expectations for this inaugural event. ¡Muchas gracias, Kathy!

Nationally, this observance takes place from September 15 to October 15. This year’s theme, Honoring our Heritage, Building our Future, offers a special opportunity to recognize the contributions made by Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and to celebrate our heritage and culture!

The Manatee County Commission proclaimed Hispanic Heritage Month for the county at its September 13th meeting and the Manatee County School Board did the same at its September 27th meeting. The Sarasota County Commission will issue its proclamation in October.

Many thanks to our elected officials for celebrating our community’s contributions to the local economy, business, arts, culture, cuisine and more!

Recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic_Heritage_Month_2016

September 15 to October 15 marks National Hispanic Heritage Month. This is a special opportunity to recognize the contributions made by Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and to celebrate our heritage and culture!

Latinos have had a profound and positive influence on our country through a strong commitment to family, faith, hard work and service. We have enhanced and shaped the national character with centuries-old traditions that reflect the multiethnic and multicultural customs of our community.

This year’s theme is Honoring our Heritage, Building our Future. At UnidosNow we live and breathe this mantra through our multigenerational approach to programs. We are privileged to serve talented, passionate young people – who, indeed, will be our future leaders – and to work with their parents, grandparents and siblings, as well, who bring their cultural wisdom and insight to cultivating these young leaders and to building a stronger community, overall!

This Campaign has ended. No more pledges can be made.
