From Curiosity to Reality: UnidosNow's Mission to Elevate Dreams
UnidosNow sparks curiosity - With our scholars, through our Future Leaders Academies and LEADNow Clubs; with our parents, through the Cafecitos at our Parent Leadership program. And with our region, through the stories and successes of our students' and families.'
That curiosity is not only driving our students to explore careers in fields they never thought of, like professions in STEAM, or inspiring our parents to get more involved in the community and their children’s schools. It is also what drove donors to our Giving Challenge profile in 2022. "Who are all these people dreaming big and reaching high?", they wondered.
They are our scholars and families achieving their own American Dream.
Our campaign told the stories of what our kids wanted to be when they grew up. We shared the impact of our community partnerships, and how those activities motivated our students and fuelled their imaginations about what is possible.
With these stories, our donors saw possibilities as well which inspired them to support our students in their journey to dream big and reach high. They understood the difference it makes in the lives of first-generation low-income students to have a culturally relevant organization that supports them toward post-secondary education. And they saw that here at UnidosNow we are delivering on our mission and vision.
Our 2022 Giving Challenge donors put their grain of sand and strengthened our STEAM workshops, our LEADNow Clubs, our College Coaches team, and our parents' involvement, providing us with more resources to increase our programs' reach and impact. More than that, our donors sparked our very own curiosity: how can further strengthen our community? That is when we saw a gap that needed to be filled.
Our parents were also getting inspired by our students' workshops and seeing their children succeed. That inspiration has now led to the creation of our Postsecondary Pathways program, which offers non-traditional Latino/Hispanic adults like our parents a way to return to school.
Postsecondary Pathways continues to expand our commitment to our community through our two-generation programming. We are excited to see how this program will further contribute to building a bright future for our entire region.
We are proud of everything we have built in our almost 14 years of existence and how far we have come from our first Giving Challenge in 2012. We have learned a lot along the way, and we continue exploring every day how to best serve our students and families, and how to build up the entire Sarasota and Manatee region.
