After a national search, community leader Evelyn Almodóvar has been selected as the new Executive Director of UnidosNow. Evelyn brings over 15 years of distinguished experience in nonprofit leadership and a deep commitment to youth development and community impact.
UnidosNow’s board of directors recently announced the appointment of Nelle Miller to the position of interim executive director as the organization searches for a permanent executive director at the national level.
More than 50 students in UnidosNow’s Future Leaders Academies program were acknowledged for their academic successes during a ceremony on May 25 at Harvest House’s Life Enrichment Campus in Sarasota. UnidosNow executive director Cintia Elenstar said 15 high school seniors achieved 100% college acceptance and collectively earned approximately $4.5 million in college scholarships and grants.
Since 2015, Corcuera has led UnidosNow and provided the local Latino community in central and southwest Florida with various higher education programs. When Corcuera took over UnidosNow, she decided to focus on its education programs and delve deeper into these efforts instead of expanding in a broader way.
“The concerts are a metaphor of UnidosNow’s work in the region over the past 12 years as we seek to present an alternative to the xenophobia that is too common in our state and nation in 2022, in particular as it relates to immigrants from Latin America,” Kirschner said.
UnidosNow presents the acclaimed Mexican folkloric group Mariachi Cobre and the Venice Symphony, on Friday, May 20, 7:30 p.m., at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, and on Saturday, May 21, 2:30 p.m., at the Venice Performing Arts Center, 1 Indian Ave., Venice.
On March 22, Kelly Kirschner, the board chair of UnidosNow, unveiled the stunning poster announcing “NocheUnidos,” the organization’s twice Covid-delayed 10th anniversary musical celebration featuring the internationally-acclaimed Mexican folkloric group Mariachi Cobre performing with the Venice Symphony.
