On to the Next Chapter
Our FLA Barancik Alumna Kamila Kemenify-Rojas will be graduating from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience and a second major in Natural and Applied Sciences this May, and she is already interviewing for her next chapter: graduate school. She has applied to the University of California - Irvine, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University, and Yale, and she has just received her first admission letter!
She told us all about her journey, and we want to share it with you for you to see what is possible when you believe in our future leaders:
“I applied to Graduate Training Programs in Neuroscience for admission in the Fall of 2023, and I actually just received my first offer of admission TODAY! This offer came on behalf of the Institute of Neuroscience at the University of Texas at Austin for their Neuroscience Ph.D. program.
“I received invitations for interviews from 5 different universities: The University of Texas at Austin, The University of California at Irvine, The University of Michigan, Yale University, and Johns Hopkins University. I am still in the process of interviewing, but I have completed most of my interviews except for the ones at the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University. I am almost done!
“Besides the interviews for neuroscience graduate programs, I received an invitation to interview with the Vivien Thomas Scholars Initiative (VTSI) at Johns Hopkins. VTSI is a program that offers funding and support to students in underrepresented minorities interested in pursuing PhDs in STEM fields. This is an opportunity available for students who graduate from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) to establish and strengthen their pathways to complete graduate studies in STEM!”
