Imposter Syndrome is a condition in which an individual doubts their skills, talents, or accomplishments and has a persistent fear of being exposed as a "fraud.” Imposter Syndrome is relatively common among college freshmen, especially those who may be the first of their family to attend college or who may have been accepted into selective schools. In this workshop, we will discuss the Imposter Syndrome, its causes, and its consequences on students as well as family members.
We will look at how feeling like an imposter can affect academic performance, brain health, and the overall college experience. Finally, we will discuss ways to combat Imposter Syndrome and, if time permits, we will practice exercises that will help strengthen the resilience of both students and parents as they prepare to for the college years.
