Nelle Miller Becomes UnidosNow New Interim Executive Director

With an extensive background in nonprofit leadership, Miller takes on this leadership role as UnidosNow’s Board does a national search for the permanent position.

(June 28, 2023) Earlier this month, UnidosNow’s board of directors announced the appointment of Nelle Miller to the position of interim Executive Director as the organization searches for a permanent executive director at the national level. The board and employees of UnidosNow appreciate outgoing Executive Director, Cintia Elenstar, for all of her hard work, leadership, and dedication to the organization, students, families, and the community at large over her three years with the organization.

UnidosNow board chair Kelly Kirschner shared, “We are grateful to have Nelle Miller’s leadership during this period, considering her long-time support of UnidosNow since our inception, in addition to her involvement with the greater nonprofit community in the Sarasota/Manatee region for over 20 years. Her deep experience in the area with a consistent focus on social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion lends a natural path for her to support us during this transition period as we search for our next, full-time Executive Director."

Miller joins UnidosNow—which focuses on supporting Latinx students on their path to earning a postsecondary degree —with the goal of helping the organization transition smoothly into its new chapter. “I am very excited to have started my work with UnidosNow as Interim Executive Director."

"It is an honor to be able to serve the community in this capacity, and just as great to be part of the incredible team that puts true grit, time, energy, and knowledge into their work. I am grateful to the Board for this opportunity and I am looking forward to working at the community table with numerous collaborators, partners, and our amazing dedicated donors and volunteers."

Former chair of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Glasser Schoenbaum Human Services Center, All Faiths Food Bank, and The Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation, Miller is currently the board chair of the Education Foundation of Sarasota County board of directors and a member of the Boxser Diversity Initiative advisory board. She hopes to explore new partnerships for UnidosNow as they continue expanding their programs and outreach in the community.

With schools now on break, our summer programs are underway, working daily with students and families, planning for the fall, evaluating curriculum and opportunities, and exploring partnerships in new places. I am looking forward to working with the team here, to being in the community in my new capacity, and to running into all of you, already friends and partners, and new,” said Miller.

As the organization moves into this new chapter, UnidosNow will continue strengthening its educational and professional outreach initiatives to the Hispanic and Latino communities in Sarasota and Manatee counties so that they can create circles of opportunities for generations to come. The organization achieves this through education initiatives, leadership training, community services, and civic engagement. Visit UnidosNow.org for more information.
